Valletta-born and bred, Teresa lived within the same 0.61 square kilometres for her whole life.

She is one of my maternal great-great-great-grandmothers.

She was born on Saturday 4 August 18101 in Valletta, Malta1. She was the daughter of Emmanuele Imbroll and Maria Formosa1.

She was baptised the day after in the parish of St Paul’s Shipwreck1 which is where her parents lived1. They baptised her as Anna Felicità Michaela Cajtaena Theresia Imbroll1.

State records contradict the church and list Teresa’s mother as Formosa, not Farrugia2. Church records almost always refer to her as “Theresa”, not “Teresa” too.

Family

On Sunday 15 May 1836, she married Paolo Darmenia in the Basilica of Our Lady of Safe Haven in Valletta3. Don Vincenzo Azzopardi officiated the wedding3.

At the time the church was still a new Basilica, having achieved that status in 1816.

I know they had at least three sons and one daughter4:

  • Emmanuele5, named after his maternal grandfather.
  • Vincenzo Carmelo Michele Pasquale Giovanni Saverio Lorenzo.
  • Lorenzo Carmelo Innocenzo Giovanni Antonio Michele.
  • Carmela Concetta Michela Innocenza Vincenza Emanuela Antonia.

Notable events

She always lived in Valletta. Her last known address was 210 Merchants Street, Valletta2.

Death

She died at 09:352 on Tuesday 15 February 18812. She died of pneumonia at home in Valletta, Malta2, 8 days after her husband passed away. Her family buried her at the Maria Addolorata cemetery, Paola, Malta2.
