Ranulf was born in Poitiers, France in 848¹ , son of Ranulf I^{1 2} and Bilichildis.

Titles

He was Count of Poitiers from 878², and Ranulf II, Duke of Aquitaine from 888².

Family

Ranulf married Ermengarde, also known as Irmgarde¹ and together they had a son, Ranulf III.

He also had an illegitimate son, Ebalus with an unknown mistress².

Some sources claim Ermengarde is the same person as his mistress¹ but far more sources claim these are two different people.

Death

He died in France. Different sources record his death in August 890¹ or sometime after July 892². In either case, we don’t know what he died of or where they buried him.
