As the daughter of a French or, possibly, an Arabic lord, there is little in recorded history about Orgueilleuse or her mysterious family.

She is my 21 x great-grand-mother.

I have not found any records about her birth. Assuming she was in her late teens when she married, she would have been born around 1150. She is the daughter of an unknown Lord of Harenc and an unknown wife1. From this I conclude she was born in the town of Harenc, which is now called Haram, Syria.

This lack of documentation shows how little they thought of women at the time.

Titles

References to the Harenc family are few and far. There are some French families who held the title of ‘Lord of Harenc’, but I can’t find records showing their descendants carried the title1. These families are1:

  • Fraisnel
  • de Courtenay
  • Saint-Valéry

If Orgueilleuse was the only child, it is reasonable to expect she would have inherited something. Given the paucity of documentation, it is not surprising there is no record of any titles.

Family

Sometime between 1168 and 1170, she married Bohemond III, Prince of Antioch, as his first wife1.

Together they had two children:

  • Raymond
  • Bohemond, who succeeded his father as Bohemond IV.

They divorced sometime after March 11751 but that’s all I know about her marriage to Bohemond.

Notable events

There are a references to show she consented to her husband donating money or land by charter1:

  • In 1170, they donated land to the Church of Santa Maria and the Archbishop of Pisa. It’s not clear which church this is, or where it is.
  • In September 1172, they donated property to the Knights Hospitaller.
  • On 4 January 1174, they granted land to Peter of Melfia.

Death

She died after March 11751. I haven’t found any information about where she died, how she died, or where they buried her.

Lineage

This person is my 21 x great-grandmother.
