This person is my 18 x great-grandmother.
She was born in 1241 or 12421. She is the eldest daughter of Guy Ibelin and his wife Philippa Berlais1.
Titles
By marriage to Hugh, she became Queen consort of Cyprus and Jerusalem.
Family
She married Hugh of Antioch in 12551. The couple got papal dispensation for the marriage on 23 January 12551.
Together they had 9, or possibly, 12 children1:
- John, or Jean, who succeeded him as King of Cyprus and Jerusalem.
- Bohemond, or Beymont.
- Henry, or Henri, II of Cyprus, who succeeded his brother John. Dante Alighieri refers to Cyprus in his Paradiso as suffering under “the Beast” as Henry II was known.
- Amaury
- Mary
- Guy, or Guido, of Cyprus.
- Aimary
- Margaret, or Marguerite
- Alix, Alice, or Aalis
- Helvis
- There is some suggestion there were 3 other daughters:
- Isabelle
- Lucie
- A possible unnamed daughter.
Death
She died on 2 June 13241 and they buried her at St Francis’ church in Nicosia1 2.
It is not clear what she died of.
