Hildegarde of Auvergne was the daughter of Louis I, who was Emperor of the West and granddaughter of Emperor Charlemagne.
She is my 31 x great-grandmother.
Hildegarde was the daughter of Louis I, Emperor of the West and his first wife Ermengarde of Hesbaye1. They named her after her paternal grandmother.
There is no record of where she was born or when.
Since her father was in the middle of besieging northern Spain around the time of her birth, it is reasonable to conclude she was born in the royal camp in the Catalunya region.
She must have been born around the end of the 8th century because:
- Her parents married in 794.
- She was the fifth child
- Her son was born between 815 and 820.
Titles
As the wife of the Count of Auvergne, she may have had the title of Countess of Auvergne but there is no record of this.
As the daughter of the emperor, she may have inherited or received titles but there is no record of this.
Family
Hildegarde married Gerard, Count of Auvergne2.
They had a son together and, according to some sources, a daughter:
- Ranulf I of Poitiers3 4.
- Some sources claim they had a daughter too, but her name is unknown5 6.
Death
I have not found any record of where she died, when or what the cause of death was. I also do not know where they buried her.
Lineage
Hildegarde is my 31 x great-grandmother.
