I know little about Giuseppe Darmenia because few records exist.

He is my 5 x great-grandfather.

He was born in Malta after 1748, son of Giorgio d’Armenia and Margherita Gherarda1.

Family

On 28 January 1776 Giuseppe Darmenia married Margherita Gatt in Vittoriosa, Malta1. Margherita was the daughter of Nicola and Maria Cristina2.

They had several children (the list is not exhaustive):

  • Michele Darmenia, born on 25 August 17803.
  • Teresia Laurentia Alexandra Diana, born on 19 September 1784

On 08 January 1806 he married Maddalena Bugailas in Vittoriosa, Malta4.

Notable events

A photo of the fortifications in Birgu, Malta. Giuseppe Darmenia would not have seen them this way, because they exploded later in his life.

The records which exist show his name to be Darmenia and not d’Armenia, making it the first instance of the name “Darmenia” in our family. However his father’s name is listed as Darmenia on Giuseppe’s wedding certificate too1, suggesting that it was the registrar in Vittoriosa church who chose to write the name as Darmenia instead of d’Armenia.

Death

I don’t know when he died, where, why or where they buried him.

Lineage

He is my 5 x great-grandfather.
