I know little about Giuseppe Darmenia because few records exist.

He is my 5 x great-grandfather.

He was born in Malta after 1748, son of Giorgio Darmenia and Margherita Gherarda1 2.

Family

On 28 January 1776 Giuseppe Darmenia married Margherita Gatt in Vittoriosa, Malta1. Margherita was the daughter of Nicola and Maria Cristina3.

They had several children (the list is not exhaustive):

  • Michele Darmenia, born on 25 August 17804.
  • Teresia Laurentia Alexandra Diana, born on 19 September 1784

On Wednesday 08 January 18065 he married Maddalena Bugailas5 in Vittoriosa, Malta5. Rev John Mizzi officiated at the wedding in the Roman Catholic Church of St Lawrence Collegiate Church5.

A photo of the fortifications in Birgu, Malta. Giuseppe Darmenia would not have seen them this way, because they exploded later in his life.

Death

He died between January 1806 and August 1808, because his second wife re-married by then6.

I don’t know where he died, how or where they buried him.
