Count Berengar was killed in battle by marauding Vikings. He didn’t live long enough to see his daughter marry the Viking invader Rollo I, which is a mixed blessing.

He is my 29 x great-grandfather.

I know nothing about Berengar’s parentage or the circumstances around his birth.

Titles

He was the Count of Bayeux1. I don’t know if he inherited this title, or if he waged war to conquer Bayeux and get the title.

Family

Berengar married the daughter of Pepin the Carolingian1. There is no record of her name. In 872 they had an only child, a daughter called Popa, or Poppa1.

Notable events

In 886, Rollo the Viking captured Bayeux, killing Count Berengar1. Rollo took Berengar’s daughter Poppa as his wife1 but it’s not clear if this was a case of bride-kidnapping or not.

Death

He died in battle in Bayeux, France in 8861 at the hands of his invading future son-in-law Rollo. I don’t know where they buried him although death in battle suggests he’s not buried anywhere.

Lineage

He is my 29 x great-grandfather.
